History

Of the United Church of the San Juans

On January 20, 2003, approximately 18 people gathered at the Graff home, exploring the possibility of forming a new church in Ouray County.

From here a steering committee was formed, a church name and Mission Statement developed to reflect our diversity and background as believers. Pastor Dick Engdahl, a retired Presbyterian minister, graciously offered his services and became our first Pastor.

Within five weeks we were holding services in our temporary church home at the Ridgway Community Center. We have grown and gained support from the community, and enjoy many attending our Sunday services.

On July 28, 2006, we purchased a small piece of property on the southwest corner of Lena and Charles Streets, across from the town park in Ridgway. A portion of the building on the property was converted to a church office and meeting room.

Groundbreaking for our new church sanctuary building was held on October 12, 2008. Our first worship service in our new facility was held July 19, 2009 and the Celebration of Dedication was August 16, 2009. Please join us for Sunday worship and Sunday school at 10:00 a.m. at 295 N. Lena Street, Ridgway, CO.

All are welcome!
